4 NYC Museums with Extended Summer Hours - Chic Summer Favorite

The summer is here in full force and it feels like we can't escape it. The air feels heavy, there are threats of storms, it feels like the sun is burning right through our skins and melting the pavement under our feet. All we can think and dream about is the cold air of an AC. But if you're in New York, you don't really want to just stay in your apartment under the AC. There's so much happening around the city and you don't want to let the #FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) take over!

Here's our strategy: taking advantage of the museum's AC while you get a an amazing injection of culture! During the summer, some New York museums have special extended hours and free or pay-what-you-wish days.

our chic museum recommendations:

  • Brooklyn Museum: If you don't want to be in the concrete jungle of Manhattan, escape to the green lung of Brooklyn: Prospect Park. Here you will find a zoo, a library, a botanic garden, a food fair if you go on a Sunday, but most prominently, the Brooklyn Museum. For their Special Summer Hours, every first Saturday of the month they will extend their hours with free admission from 5 PM to 11 PM
  • MET: For their Special Summer Hours, the MET is open until 9 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Explore the art of ancient civilizations from all over the world, but don't forget to visit the famous fashion exhibition and the rotating ones!
  • Neue Gallery: Although this small museum hosts some of the most famous Klimt and Kandinsky paintings, it was made famous after the move Woman in Gold with Helen Mirren was released, where they tell the story of a Klimt Painting of the same name, and how it was rutrned to their rightful owners after World War II we totally recommend that movie if you haven't seen it! And to visit the original, breathaking master piece at this gallery. During the summer, the Neue Gallery opens until 8 PM on the first Friday of every month, and won't charge a ticket after 6 PM!
  • Whitney Museum: One of the newest additions to NYC's List of Museums, the Whitney invites its visitors to view a variety of modern and contemporary art with extended hours on Friday and Saturday, closing its galleries and outdoor spaces with beautiful views of Chelsea and the Lower West Side as late as 10 PM.
